A SCHOOL COUNSELOR MEETS WITH STUDENTS TO:

Listen, empathize and advocate on students' behalf.

Set personal goals and find solutions.

Provide support and strategies students can use through individual/group counseling and comprehensive developmental classroom guidance lessons.

Teach coping strategies when dealing with personal problems and educate students on understanding self and others.

Discuss and practice alternate behaviors that meet the needs of students in a more acceptable way.

Coach students on how to use effective social skills and how to form healthy peer relationships.

Provide crisis intervention and management.
A SCHOOL COUNSELOR MEETS WITH PARENTS/GUARDIANS TO:

Form a collaborative relationship in order to help students meet academic, personal/social, behavioral and career success.

Share information about the child. Communicating openly is an important part of establishing a helping relationship.

Discuss intervention recommendations and implementation of interventions at school and at home.

Address any concerns parents/guardians may have and discuss the needs of their child.
